Saying the Confidence Out Loud
■ A confident answer moves fast and defers the real cost
The instruction comes quickly, and the reply comes back just as quickly: understood. Inside, recognition confidence sat at sixty-two percent. That number never left the machine. A flat answer removes the pause now and hands the price of being wrong to someone later.
■ Hidden uncertainty pushes the correction back onto the person
The failure is not accuracy. Sixty-two percent is not an error; it is a signal that a check belongs here. But the reply has only one setting, so the signal stays inside. The nurse sees the outcome and never the spread behind it.
■ Conclusion: Show the hesitation while it is still hesitation
Once low confidence appears beside the answer, one extra step enters the exchange — a check before the mistake, not a retreat after it. Trust comes not from a machine that is always right, but from one that says when it might not be.
A machine that admits doubt can be trusted with more.
